Its not what color scheme is most efficient. A more appropriate quesiton would be what color combos go best with each other.

My advice? pick up ye 'ol color wheel. We all learned how those worked in grade school. Also, check out your mom's pottery barn and crate and barrel catelogues... I like looking at paint and old wallpaper swatch books for some interesting combos. Experiment.

Everyone has their own favourite color schemes, but it's nice to try something different. Since this is your first portfolio, I would say just try a bunch of things.

And I bet you can, even at your age, at least sit in a color theory class next summer or christmas vacation at your local community college. You can go and observe the class without being an enrolled student if there's space.

I suggest spending a lot of time on your first portfolio layout. try designing something you dont know how to build. Try something crazy. You could even try an all flash site. Create the comps for your site and post them here in a couple of weeks, and we can all help give you advice on what needs work. (before you build the site). Designing something for yourself you know will be super challenging to build is how we all learn. Also, work on a personal logo.. etc. There are a lot of talented people here who can help guide you.

make sure when you do post your stuff again, remind people how old you are. Most of us are working professionals, and some may tear into you without realizing your a student.
