I just got out of a relationship in November. It was definitely for the best. We were not right for each other. I had to stop my ex from calling me after we broke up too. Unnecessary contact right after a breakup just makes it harder to move on.
My advice to you would be to take things very slow next time and to hold off announcing your feelings too soon. Some of the first feelings of love that you think you have are sometimes related to the excitement of being with someone new. It's also better for you if you take longer to get to know the person.
