the design down here tends to have its own flavour..definitely a south african aesthetic comes through, although this is often combined with quite a european aesthetic as well. green design is quite a topic down here as well, as most agencies are starting to take the environment into account and produce design work in an enviro-friendly way.

You should definitely do sundowners at La Med or somewhere in Camps Bay..very pretty as the sun starts to set. The V&A Waterfront is also rad..have a couple of jazz restaurants and other restaurants and often is live music in the amphitheatre. I would also recommend going up the cable car to the top of table mountain or going on a hike up table mountain! Centre of town is also very cool..is where a lot of design studios are..lots of interesting little shops and cafes there. Oh...and Kirstenbosch Gardens are amazingly beautiful too..we are incredibly blessed down here! They have a nice restaurant there..or you could also bring a picnic lunch to eat in the gardens. They will probably still have some Summer Concerts on as well, so you can listen to some live local music and take in the views! When in town , you should definitely go to the astoreisgood..has a great selection of design books, vinyl toys, sneakers and just really amazing stuff! Cafe Royale and Vida e are quite rad places to hang out in town as well..a lot of design people hang out there.

If you can make it to the Design Indaba, at the Cape Town Convention Centre, you should definitely go..famous designers and illustrators like Christoph Niemann come from all across the globe and speak at the conference and there is the expo on at the end of the week, exhibiting the best in local graphic design, fashion design, industrial design and advertising. Very inspiring! It on towards the end of Feb.
