    I was on a family plan also when I switched over to at&t, they originally told me I was going to have to pay a fee and that the # wont switch over but then I called back and talked to someone that actually knew how to do their job and they switched me over without a fee and I still have my original #. Anyway keep calling until you actually get someone who knows how to do their job.
