We had a huge discussion about this the past couple days, and I referenced the Scientologists a lot. A very good friend has an enormous cyst on her ovary. The size of a cantaloupe. She's a bit of a "naturalist," a wiccan, but also extremely susceptible to other nonsense (see The Secret thread).
She has refused normal medical care and surgery and is convinced she can shrink the cyst by will and diet. She has been on a macrobiotic diet for 8 months and looks like an Auschwitz prisoner.
She recently had a phone call with a "medical intuitive." These are 'psychic' types who claim they can sense and diagnos illness from a distance, even over the phone (not making this up). She recorded the call and asked us to listen to it. It was one of the scariest things I've ever heard. It was so much like listening to a Thetan Count session. We were revulsed.
Not sure what to do with her. We're considering addiction specialists and cult deprogrammers.Anyway...so yeah. It was like the Scientologists. (Sorry for long post).
