"The early '90s saw a whole new wave of kids becoming bored with hardcore and discovering the possibilities of indie rock. These kids where spurned on by groups like Fugazi and Slint, who combined an arty dissonance with an emotional and highly personal approach to lyrics. What emerged was a new sound, full of intricate, notey passages, syncopation, and thundering, emotive releases, rooted somewhat in the old hardcore sounds, but also drawing on noise rock and emo influences as well"
