I got an FWA and i've been published a couple of times on some portals/ annuals.
Could be a nice to write on your cv, but i don't refer myself as an award winning designer.
And, IMHO, to achieve an award you have to be lucky that the project can be an award winner. In terms of commercial projects this mean that your client has big money or you have almost total freedom about that project .
The FWA i won, was for my gf portfolio website (she is an illustrator), so no money but total freedom.
