I doubt it is for slave wages. It most likely is to claim they have ... prison artists.
Having an edgy back story can help propel a clothing company into the big time. It is such a cluttered market, most likely they are trying to break out in this unusual manner.
Just like back in the late 90s the brand PRISON BLUES got pretty popular. They were jeans made by prisoners.
