i would suggest you take a long holiday and visit some major east coast and west coast cities. try not to spend too much time socializing with internet people you might know around each palce and rather go out and really explore each neighborhood or area you might be interested.. visit the local bars and clubs, look at apartments.. do a lot of strolling around. talk to people everywhere. get their opinions on why they like or dont like being there. try the sanfran, LA, Seattle at least on the west coast.. some would say chicago would be a good place to visit... and the east coast.. boston, NY, PA...
dont take anyone's word for it. you just have to experiece these cities for yourself.
for instance. I would tell you I hate NYC and San Fransico.. I think they suck. But I love LA. Some people are completely opposite. It really depends on your personality.
