    There are lots of different routines and types of physical work you could be doing. I agree that doing something you enjoy helps immensely. As well, different body types react differently to different routines and combinations. Certainly always do some cardiovascular work, always some form of stretching, and certainly only helps to also do some resistance. On top of that, the type of work you do is up to you.

    I too have studied martial arts for a long time, as its terrific for you in many ways, not only in respect to losing weight or building muscle. Coordination, speed, agility, focus, reflexes, etc... As well, I'm a runner by choice. In the gym, some rowing, core and resistance work.

    but you should choose whatever works best for you and will keep you motivated.
