Well for the most part it depends what school/program you are getting them through. The obvious answer is that an M.A. is a Master of Arts degree that usually is a more general degree that includes curriculum outside of Fine Arts (the F.A. in MFA). An MFA will expose you to the world of arts in a variety of disciplines whereas an MA has more traditional expectations.
