I'd back Boston too. My mom/stepdad lived there for 6 1/2 years when I was younger. New England is beautiful, I've seen so much up there when I was there for summers and certain weeks to see them.

Cape Cod...I really miss it. We'd go camping every summer at Nickerson State Park (I think) and snorkel in the crystal clear ponds, snorkel in the bay, go fishing, go out to the tip of the cape, it was the best. Martha's Vinyard was nice as well.

Boston is a good sized city, big, but it has alot of charm that some smaller cities have. Very popular with tourists, of course.

If you can handle a long cold winter, Chicago is a great place. The summer here hasn't been too hot, and there are parks, the lake (Lake Michigan), beaches, museums, great architecture, mediocre sports teams, good public transportation (subway and bus).
I've been here almost two years and couldn't be happier.
