    I was about 11 or 12 years old when he hit his peak in the early 70s. That was a great time to be alive!

    Stealing sheets of plywood from constructions sites, so we could build illicit bicycle-jumping ramps was a popular activity among me and my friends about this time.

    Eventually we rigged up our local version of the Snake River Canyon jump: a ramp that launched us into about the middle of the local river, where it was about 20 feet deep. We'd swim back to shore, and then use a rope to haul our bikes back out.

    For some reason, that one summer, our bikes rusted an awful lot.
