bad news man, hope you find something better soon. I've been both laid off and fired before, and both led to better gigs.
P.S. If you can avoid telling your next employer that you were fired, without outright lying about it, then do so...it could arouse unnecessary suspicion about your work ethic/quality and lead you to say bad (albeit likely true) things about your former employer, which is always a bad move in interviews.
