i'm not discrediting 99% of the art from the last 50 years. I'm discrediting the perception people have of it. To understand an artists intentions, thoughts, implications, message, etc is an excercise in futility. it is imposssible to see what they saw. ill use the monet example again. what was the concept behind the water lillies? the answer is, you have no idea. neither do i. but does that make the art less beautiful? no it doesn't. im going to go out on a limb and say all monet was thinking about was," wow, these are nice lillies. i think i'll paint them." wow that's some message.
