I love dogs, so I say - for a natural home-living sort of cool person, and frosty climate, get a good shepherd-dog. don't mind the hype and stupid apparel. Some people injure dogs for their aesthetic pleasure, which I find the most unpleasant. Shepherds are un-maimed: they get to live with their ears and tails.
