do yourself a favour and dont compare the creation of a country with such rich history as Portugal with what these Basque terrorist trolls are trying to make. Circumstances and times are different and besides you dont know very well whats going on. The basque provinces have been happy, contributing, integral parts of Spain for centuries, benefitting from the protection of central Spain against invasions and so on and, UNLIKE OTHER REGIONS, they never brought up the issue of separatism in all these centuries until a few decades ago, when they were already one of the most industrialized regions in Spain. (yes, some of what are today Basque leaders, instead of fighting for democracy in Franco's times like so many other Spaniards, were instead making huge deals with Franco to create some of the most important companies in Spain and Latin America today). They also found out that if you have a band of terrorists supporting you you can pretty much ask for anything you want.
