  I think they are very passionate when they play, but when getting interviewed they lack appropriate language to express the passion, I'd imagine they want to swear and go mental but politeness and broadcasting laws forbid them, so you just hear what they feel comfortable saying. Also in football it is a team game so blame seems easy to spread out if it is a more individual sport you have all the pressure on you, mind you listen to ronnie osullivan when he wins it's like some guys just thrown his cat into the sea.
