yes,tele atlas was bought out by tomtom. but i think garmin had no intention of actually buying that company going into the bidding war. it was simply one way to make tomtom over pay for it.
garmin is a lot bigger, x4 in terms of market capitalization. so if they were serious about it, they could have easily outbid tomtom.
it will be interesting to see how these companies do in future but tomtom just blew way more than they should.
