on the other hand, it doesn't seem if the preemptive strategy is very effective and as a governing idea it has few believers though those that are are zealots.
1. The war in Iraq is lost as a military adventure. Whatever was gained cannot be held or rather it can be held until the Chinese call their margins.
2. The war of terrorism is a war of ideas. Democracy has no example but then neither has the caliphate. Despite the fiasco of puppet regimes in Iraq and Afghanistan, with others in fear of being discovered (Syria and Jordan) and others cowed by weapons and materiel parked on tarmacs as visible warnings- there still is some hope for the polluters of the West, namely guarantees of individual freedoms.
3. Iran wins. So get over it already. Its nice to have an enemy but why was not Iran chosen in the first place rather than Saddam Hussein? This is a neo-con mystery.
4. Turkey should become part of EU and the United States should support every effort it makes. It remains the only example of a modern islamic state with a moderate chance of becoming something like a western country. Dubai is a disneyland as an example of a country that will resemble Manhattan not Ohio. We need Ohio.
5. The democrats need to think break and not continuity. We need a Democratic leader capable of risking a treaty of Brest-Litovsk. The war is at home and not on the foreign battlefield with boots on the ground, expensive, visible, and failing. Make the war covert, and the policy public.
6. Bomb Afghanistan with tents, food, supplies. Just dump largesse everywhere to everyone at the same time without regard for the feudalism that has funneled money to the top. Every Afghan house has a television even before plumbing? And we still cannot convince them of the rightness of the Coalition of the Willing?
7. Have Saudi Arabia declare itself the 50 year Caliphate. After the oil is depleted, we will cease to care about the Middle East.
8. The Chinese are colonizing Africa. Is this a problem for resource access in 50 years? We think of Africa as charity, they think of it as business. One cripples the african, the other makes him a partner.
9. Separate the Church from the state once and for all. Faith-based initiatives are nothing but the government paying tithes. What to do? Tax property-owning religions as you would any business.
10. Give every state a billion dollars for education to dispense with as they see fit.
