Also, realize that if you sport tattoos in Japan it's still somewhat taboo. It's nowhere near as discriminated against as it once was, but forget about using a public bath house and other such amenities. Someplaces might let you slide on the "gaijin" tag,, but not too much, especially if you have more than one piece or lots of work...
