Yup, i actually know how to do it the right way. Forget the hammer, towel and nails. (that is amatur stuff) I spend four months in Jamaica an they thought me the way.
Grab the coconut with the face (http://www.howtoopenacoconut.co... facing you.
Then there is a small line over the whole nut.
Give it a good smack across that line with the back (not the sharp side) of a machete (in case of no machete by hand find something else ) and the coconut wil split in two nice parts.
Be sure to hold it steady so you won't spill the milk.
Do it this way and you will sure impress the little boy.
