If there were no DJs it would be nigh on impossible to discover music as easily. You hear a tune a DJ plays, find out the name, then go buy it – it's nothing to do with being restricted to someone elses tastes.
Plus they get shit way before everyone else.
I certainly don't think that DJs are superstars but in a lot of ways, people who play other peoples music are as important as the peopel who make it. It's symbiotic.
I do like un-mixed compilations though......
