okay, realise this will give you stunning results, wereas scanning them yourself might just turn out to be a really shitty experience (losing the larger part of your life)

this nikon scanner is great, I've seen great results from it but you might underestimate the amount of work that you will be facing. A slade will take a considerable time to scan, and then the photoshopping starts...
it's about 2000 dollars i think, good thing is you get to keep the scanner....
also scanning negative slides is difficult, I'd say you should first try to find cheaper and less labour intensive alternatives
