in his defense i have heard many times sf described as having a small town feel. that you get to know people quite well b/c the scenes are small (art, music etc)

I felt that in NYC everyone is trying to "make it" and that everyone is trying to one up each other, or has something terribly to prove. which is sad. bigger population does not meet better quality people. it just means that people flock to the big city. think of the eggyolk statistics model.
anyway, i can't imagine this world without new york anyway. it's like a micro-world rolled into one.
