In any sport--hockey, football, tennis, soccer.. doesn't matter--to the untrained eye it looks like random ridiculousness. Trust that there is a serious plan going on in each action.
Okay, not baseball. That pitcher/catch signal/deny/approve stuff... I'm pretty sure they're just wasting time. What else can you expect from a sport where you can't hit an animate object.
