Search Chicago in PVN, not saying I won't offer suggestions but it seems like we do this tread once a month! :D
The best tip I ever suggest to people is to go have a drink at the Signature Room bar at the Hancock building. The bar is free to enter, and you can spend that $11 it would cost at the observatory on a drink - and it will be the coolest view you'll ever see from a bar.
Shopping:
Wicker Park area is good for urban, trendish stuff, stores like Untitled (where you can see a mural done by Nopattern on the wall) Akira, plently of other new and used stores.Restaurants:
