    You assume correctly.

    The 100mm is awesome too. Both lenses are the same as far as image quality and AF speed. The 100mm is a tad heavier and its harder to use the on board flash as the working distance is a bit further away. I also found the 100mm slightly harder to hand hold as the longer focal length shows more handshake. On the up side the 100mm is an EF mount so it can be used on full frame cameras and the 60mm is ef-s so can only be used on crap cameras.

    The 60mm on a 30D is the same focal length as a 100mm on a 5D.

    Both work great for macro (1:1 magnification) and both make great portrait lenses.
