The Hudson. I stayed there last March for a little less than $200/night. It's one of the trendy Ian Shrager (sp??) hotels -- the hotel room is pretty clean and nice, but mostly trendy, 2 blocks south of Central Park, in a safe neighborhood. If you do stay there, avoid their overpriced "Cafeteria". I made reservations through Hotels.com
I've also stayed at the infamous Chelsea Hotel -- about the same price range, but horrible and kind of scary with their loud ventilators that make loud annoying sounds in the dead of night -- even though it's not on.
