ALWAYS worth it.
On my past five Powerbooks and Macbooks I've had Applecare, and it has paid for itself ten times over on all of them.
I may have been unlucky, and I am not as big of an Apple fan as some of the others on here, but when something breaks, and you can bet your ass it will, whatever it is - applecare will be cheaper than to buy whatever is broken separately. Not to mention the next thing that will break a few months after that. That will happen too.
So yes - do it.
