Ah yes, an opportunity to foist this long-held belief that we have worse teeth than you bloody over-health-insured Yanks. How's about I dig out some pics of your Appalachia folk, or low-income families and see how they compare? Bastards!
Anyway, personally, I see nothing wrong with doing a bit of ad-hoc dental work - it's the blitz spirit of self-reliance coming back.
Just last week I did some bridge work on a friend and I've got a tube of quickcrete at the ready should I need a cavity filling anytime soon.
