I work part time at an apple store, and I must say that while macs are cool looking and the operating system is the best mainstream os on the market, I am sick of the "mac lifestyle" that is being sold by apple...

I don't feel that the os justifies the humungus jump in price that the apple laptops comand. Espically when you figure in the cost of transfering over your adobe software. I think a pc can be just as good, and the price will allow you to upgrade as technology expands.

And those who run windows on your intel macs, you are opening your computer up to viruses and voiding the main advantage of buying a mac---the virus protection. Plus you can void your warranty by putting non-apple suported 3pp which are known to increase the risk of viruses.

That being said, I do feel that the 24", not the 20" (terrible screen), Imac is a good investment and the prices are more inline with the pc desktops when you figure in the screen size resolution, and operating system. But I wouldnt put windows on it. I often tell people at the store to skip the macbooks and buy an IMac and get a cheap PC laptop for portability. I would recomend the same thing in this situation.

and in terms of case design both gateway and HP are putting out some very appealing systems. They are doing it with out the huge price tag, and some great creative features.
