    don't forget that lisbon is known as the city of the 7 hills. so prepare to do some uphill and downhill walking! it's nothing like london in terms of area or flatness...

    i think there have been all good suggestions posted already, i would only reiterate walking through Bairro alto, principe real (above b. alto), baixa/chiado, rossio. All very close to each other and show what lisbon is all about. A cool place to see slso is Miradouro de Santa Catarina, near B. Alto. its a belvedere (?) where all the locals hang out at any time of day (especially at night) for meeting up, having a drink smoking, listening to music and watching that great view over lisbon. Other than that, just walk around those areas and you wont be disappointed! If you have time you should check out Cascais (30 min by train along the coast) which is a small city on the coast. used to be a small fishing village where the royals and nobles of the time vacationed. good sea food, surf and nice to see a bit of outside the city centre!
