Yep it is strange, I never found them at all funny, it was their look...a banger and a mullet, is not a look I warmed to easily, it was that classic clown model of the blind leading the blind as in most of their capers, just done badly.
I once saw them at Flamingo Land in Yorkshire, they must have been filming and it seemed to between takes 'cause they were smoking tabs and swearing! unless they did a post-watershed Chucklevision in which they un-successfully bungled their way through paying for prostitutes or buying drugs!
They always reminded me of these two clowns too (Rush & Aldridge)...
