Universal is exactly that, it's for all parts of the mountain. Contact is a Freestyle setup, and Power is for technical and specific riders. Those are you backcountry, pro series, and halfpipe boards. Starting out I would go for a Custom, the Bullet and the Canyon are the same as the Custom but for people with large feet. The Seven wouldn't be a bad choice either but it has a thinner sidecut for quicker manuvering.
I had a Custom 3 years ago, it was ok but they have totally redesigned them since. i heard they are pretty strong. if your wanting to save some $$$ maybe try the Indie.
