can't you place the swf's at the same absolute position on screen... then using 'z-index'... set one on top of the other... right?
... if you need to swap depths when clicking - you'll have to come up w/some javascript to send to the browser to tell it to swap those two's z-index positions...
... just a theory though - that's how I'd approach this if i'm reading your post correctly.
