for years i've referred to my step-father, sam, as my "other father" - he is significantly older than my mother (before she passed a few years ago). He is currently 80 years old and today he underwent heart valve corrective surgery. I spent all morning on edge hoping all would go well. There were 2 scenarios - go in between 2 ribs (aka: keyhole surgery) or go through the chest (aka: holy shit). I wasn't convinced he could come back from the latter... and I'm pleased to report that the doctors went with the former. He'll be under 24 hour watch until tomorrow (strictly procedure) and he could be home by as early as saturday. I've shed some tears of joy today and I can't wait to see him feeling better. Ah fuck that... I can't wait to see him feeling GREAT!
