I remember when my daughter was around 16 and had bright red and blue hair and some kind of insanely outrageous clothes on and our family went to Bouley for a fancy meal and all the rich people around us were staring at her with disapproving airs and making her feel very unwanted. When the meal was almost over the French maitre d gave us complimentary desserts, took her by the hand and said "thank you so much for coming in--you bring such beauty to my restaurant"
