People also do some very good things in the name of the same things. People also do good and/or stupid things in the name of reason. Or nationalism. Or because they feel like it.
Doesn't make those things inherently good or bad, just shows that humans are capable of both behaviors regardless of the rationale they tell themselves.
To use religious ethics as the sole basis for a value judgement of "good" is kinda silly, especially as "good" can vary from culture to culture and from environment to environment. (Tips hat to Freidrich for that point)
