I'll second Typetool, it's not FREE (what is ?), but you can copy + paste your vectors from AI to Typetool and export a font. Cool!

2- Results will be shared for free. won't make a dime out of it.
3- All the work is done, I can justify spending 99 bucks when everything is finished in illustrator (I don't care for an editor, just some sort of extension that will let me export it)
