'Toful', sorry for the late answer, but I only got hold of the CD's a couple days ago....
Zorn...Zorn... let me see..... Most of his stuffs fits in the space jazz/groove/some electronic category you want:
Zorn - Naked City (+);
Zorn - Radio: very similar to the exemple above....;
Zorn - Absinthe: same style but with a much more slow approach (too much);
Zorn - FilmWorks (Various CD's) - a lot of soundtracks, so you'll problably get a lot of different ambients here;Other non-Zorn ideias....
Sun Ra: Cosmic Tones for Mental Therapy/Art forms of dimension tomorrow;MMW (Medeski, Martin & Wood): much more groove;
Beastie Boys: The In Soun from Way Out - I though to add this one, because there are some very nice groove/spacy ambients here (+)
Herbie Hancock: Thrust and Headhunters - still groove...;
Billi Cobham - Spectrum - same as Hancock's but with more Bass, qich were in favt sampled by Massive Attack;
Wayne Horvitz (Zorn's disciple): Miracle Mile - quite interesting
Edward Vesala: Lumi - problably too cerebral;
Terje Rypdal: Chaser - very spacy..... maybe too nordic?;Others:
Tortoise - Standards - very nice;
Pascal Comelade: parodies of a lot of styles , he has very good stuff that can fit your needs;
King Crimson: the same case as Comelade;
Residents: loooooots of options...;
Joe Satriani: I know, I know, but it's lates (audible) stuff can be exactly what you want;
Wim Mertens: problably...;
Zappa: because he's the man, and in 'zillions' of his music, something good can come up...Enjoy,
