    Jaline,

My music life has more in common with this thread for sure with my mom.

    For example:

I play guitar, sing, write music, don't play covers, either in my band or on my own.

But 9/10 times when talking to my mom about an upcoming show, or new songs, or whatever, she just thinks I "sing." Even after seeing my band live for the first time when we played in Dallas in March, she still refers to me as just singing.

She just got a new computer at work, with speakers, so she glowingly told me: "Now I can go on your site and listen to you sing at work." Flattered, of course, but annoyed highly.

Much like mom's sending computer jobs totally unrelated to what you actually do, my mom has given plenty of advice on how my band can succeed, including:

    1) Playing on "Good Morning Chicago," a tv show that doesn't even exist.

    2) Playing on Oprah.

    3) She may have, possibly, suggested I try out for American Idol. I could be wrong though.

Anyhow, I've told her so many times "Mom - we're not that kind of band, you just don't understand." She thinks things are so feasable and make so much sense - like my band has any sense playing on Oprah, much less there will never, ever be such an opportunity.

It's so bizarre sometimes. I know she means well, but she's so out of touch with my reality.
