    well, with PHP you require GD, and if you're going to go that route, then I DEFINTIELY reccommend ImageMagick instead.

    It's faster and far more robust. You should ask your host if ImageMagick is installed, as it's been on most servers I've been on, including my current one (been using it for watermarking images).

    The best part of it is how robust it is. If your savvy enough, you could crop, watermark, fiix brighntess, etc with it.

    If they dont have it, they MAY be willing ot install it for you, considering its a well known and widely used prog for web devs.

    You could also check out the linux library that includes the commange pnmscale. IT's a command line app that does image resizing, although I'm not too sure of the quality of the resize.

    Obviously, the good of having it all done on your site is that you can upload once, manip all images remotely without being tied to any system (stop at an internet cafe, use your laptop, log in from a phone, etc).

    As far as desktop resizing is concerned, Irfanview looks pretty damned good. Isn't image resziing built into WinXP now too?
