Ruth played during the dead ball era. He was a starting pitcher during his Red Sox years.
Aaron played during the entire decade of the 60s, the most pitching-dominant era of baseball.
Bonds is playing in such an asterisk-ridden era where no one cares anything about the integrity of the game.
Here's another thing to consider. Baseball went from 1977 to 1996 with no one hitting 50 homers in a season. It's not a coincidence.
