fyoucher1: thanks for the tip on Aetna. I'll call next week.
F_18: thanks for the links. re the Freelancer's Union: unfortunately, United's Golden Rule doesn't carry into NYC. I've only heard negative things about HIP in the city. Does anyone have anything 'nice' to say about them as a provider?
As a general update, it's going to cost me $300 to renew my AIGA membership and after 2mos i can apply to their group Oxford plan which is three-tiered between $350 and $700mo for individuals.
Enrollment to the Freelancer's Union is free and their HIP related range from $325 to $250mo. Don't yet know what an EPO is. God help me, the acronyms are beginning to mount.
National Congress of Employers, is a new one to me. They don't have specifics on their site about coverage. They do offer PPO in addition to the rest and seem to offer dental through Aetna, which is a plus. Is anyone using them or know their rates? I'll contact them next week.
Both AIGA and Freelancer's union has this caveat that you be able to prove that you were employed for 20hrs a week for at least 8 weeks. As a freelancer who doesn't punch a time-clock or really get paid on a regular basis, does anyone know how this process works?
Again, thanks all for your help.
