so I go into the Apple store and tell the iPhone guru-guy that my sounds are not working at all and he looks at my phone and says "ohhh this button has to be clicked"
I spent hours .... days even... trying to figure this thing out checked all the general settings ... reset to factory settings ....apparently this is the button
holy shit I walked out of there ashamed ... ashamed I tell ya
