I don't think he meant, "what is a cottage?". And it's not just a Canadian reference, is it?

(Jul 20 07, 11:46)In thunder bay, they are referred to as cabins. If you say I am going to the cottage for the weekend, they will have no idea what you are referring to.
Although everything up there is a cottage/cabin in my opinion.
