to make a seamless diagonal pattern in Illustrator, make a seemless horizontal pattern.. save it as a pattern swatch. Apply this swatch to your type. And then do object>rotate set the tickbox of objects to off and set the tickbox of patterns to on.. set your rotation (45ยบ).. finished.
