i can only speak for my own experience...my parents taught us that people were people, period. we moved from europe to the states and the only thing i noticed about the miami melting pot was the crazy variance in languages and accents. i went to this place in the 6th grade and was so mistreated that i was wary of black people until the 9th grade or so. it was wariness, and even a little fear for the way i was treated, not racism.

by the time i reached high school i outgrew it and had friends from all cultures, races and backgrounds, but it took a while.

unless parents instill racism, which sadly many do, i believe children are inherently accepting of others. at least that's my experience.
