It is/was a homebuild PC.
I think (*hope*) it's my power supply - just taken it apart and it definitely appears to smell more than the rest of the computer and the dust inside is a distinctly darker shade of eugh.
This is an awkward time - I was hoping not to upgrade 'til quad-cores drop in price.
